Here you will find the ramblings, happenings and intricacies of me, Sara Webb. |
Within the past 2 weeks, changes have happened that I didn’t plan for. A few changes made within this district’s native English teacher contract meant big changes for me. I knew I would be finishing my contract term this coming May. (My third contract!) At the end of that contract, I assumed I would, reluctantly, accept the same position with the same school or, hesitatingly, find a teaching position elsewhere. Either way I chose, it would mean signing another 1-year contract and another year in Korea.
Turns out, I must choose neither. From this year on, the English program I work for will only hire public school teachers in the months of March and September.
With that change being said, my school proposed an idea: to “terminate” my current contract in February and sign a new contract beginning March, a way to get around the rules. But if I don’t follow that plan, then I have to go home after my May contract completion, and hope for a new job this September.
After MUCH thought and weighing out all the pros and cons of the situation. It was pretty much a no-brainer for me. The pros were 10 feet taller than the cons. But maybe it wouldn’t be so simple, as my decision will make it harder for the other party.
So for the past 2 weeks, everything has been back and forth. So many questions of what to do. Many conversations had. Thoughts thought. Discussions discussed. And finally, I know one concrete thing.
I’m coming home in May.
And then there are so many questions looking for their answers…
Will I come back to Korea? Will I be able to get a job in Korea? Will I be able to get a job in the US? If so, doing what? Will I just chill for 4 months or find part-time work? Will my boyfriend come with me for some of the time? Traveling? What about money? Should I return to Korea in June for studying Korean at a university? Where would I live? And how does Nola fit into all of this (especially with her problematic snub-nose.) WHAT DO I EVEN WANT?
And now, with just knowing I’ll be returning in May, its as if my outlook as shifted. Shifted and muddled.
look at this and not smile. impossible!

Oh, I see you’re home early.
Mushrooms. Mayonnaise. Cilantro. Black Licorice. Coconut. Brussel sprouts. White chocolate.
Commonly, these foods are either loved or hated. Food politics. Kinda interesting. Where do you stand?
